Aggies Honor Parents for Commitment to Education
Chuck Meloy Family
Chuck, Katy, Shari and Grady Meloy
Luda and Bobby Meloy have followed a clear path during their 50-year relationship―dedication to church, love for their family and a

strong belief in the power of education. Kind and humble, the Meloys reared their children to be respectful, make good choices and to be thankful for what they have. Bobby worked for the Texas public school system for 36 years, first as a teacher and ultimately as a high school principal. Once all the children were enrolled in school, Luda began work in the school cafeteria. Both retired from Calhoun County Independent School District in 1994.

The Meloy children understood it was a natural progression to receive a college education, and Bobby and Luda are proud parents to three Aggies―Chuck ’82, Dwayne ’85 and Jana ’87. “For 10 years we had our children at Texas A&M and for seven of those years, we had two there at one time,” said Bobby. The Meloys visited their children on weekends and attended football games, and they are proud to continue that tradition with their Aggie grandchildren.

The love and support of his parents and their commitment to education encouraged Chuck Meloy ’82, senior vice president of worldwide operations for Anadarko Petroleum Corp., to create the Bobby and Luda Meloy Legacy Scholarship through the Texas A&M Foundation. The recipient of this endowed scholarship will be an incoming freshman from Jackson or Calhoun County who demonstrates financial need and is active in his or her community. The interest from the $100,000 endowment will generate an annual stipend to fund the student’s scholarship.

“There are so many kids who have big dreams without the financial means to pursue them,” said Chuck. “This scholarship is a way to help a deserving young person and also honor my parents at the same time.”

Luda and Bobby are eager to see the fruits of the scholarship that bears their names. “It’s exciting to think about the students of the
future who will benefit from this gesture,” said Bobby. The Meloy’s continued involvement in their local community means they may have already crossed paths with these future Aggies.
