Father Honors Son Through Scholarship

June 26, 2008

David S. Ramos committed $25,000 to the Michael David Ramos '03 Memorial Corps Scholarship  to honor his son, Michael Ramos. Once funded, the scholarship will support deserving members of the Corps of Cadets.

”It’s appropriate that our family should establish a scholarship benefiting students who have chosen to attend an institution with proud traditions and a reputation as a great learning institution―the very factors that drew Michael to Texas A&M University and the Corps of Cadets,” said Ramos.

Michael graduated with a degree in industrial distribution and was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets outfit Outlaw 8. After graduation, he ventured to New York City’s financial district and later worked for Southwest Securities in Chicago in stock and bond trading. During his time in New York and Chicago, he held a number of professional and civic memberships, including being a mentor for disadvantaged youth, a member of Cabrini Connections, and the Chicago A&M Club .

Michael passed away as a result of a car accident on April 5, 2007.

“We hope this scholarship will help give Aggies financial assistance so they can focus on the educational challenges of Texas A&M,” Ramos said. “Our son was an individual who leveraged a great education, disciplinary training from the Corps of Cadets, his motivation, faith and aptitude, to achieve success during his brief time in this world. It was Texas A&M that established the foundations of Michael’s success, and it also helped him become a proud and giving member of the community, especially in the area of disadvantaged youth.”
