Engineering Students Awarded Chevron Fellowships

November 13, 2008

Eight students in the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University have been awarded Chevron Corporation Project Management Fellowships.

Undergraduate students Jared Alan Hinds, Jeff H. Selby, Justin Yates Turner, Kevin Lee White and Michael Alexander Yager along with graduate students Michael Mazzola and Timothy Taylor were awarded the fellowship for the fall 2008 semester, while undergraduate Jason Craig Newman received the fellowship for the summer 2008 semester.

Earlier this year Chevron Energy Technology Co., provided a $2.5 million gift to the Texas A&M Foundation to benefit the Dwight Look College of Engineering to elevate the Engineering Project Management Certificate at Texas A&M. The Look College of Engineering offers this certificate program to add value to engineering degrees college-wide. Aggie engineering graduates with a Project Management Certificate enter the job market with the basic technical knowledge necessary to deliver projects on time, on target and on budget.

The Engineering Project Management Certificate program is complimented by the Frank/Marathon Ashland endowed chair professorship, held by Dr. Ken Reinschmidt, National Academy of Engineering member and civil engineering professor specializing in construction engineering and management.  Dr. John Niedzwecki, executive associate dean of engineering, adds, “Dr. Reinschmidt has structured this certificate program with flexibility to adapt the concepts of project management to students across the ten engineering departments. The Chevron gift is allowing us to better answer industry’s demand for project management skills.”

Chevron Corp. is one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies, with subsidiaries that conduct business across the globe. Chevron explores for, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas; refines, markets and distributes transportation fuels and other energy products; manufactures and sells petrochemical products; generates power and produces geothermal energy; provides energy efficiency solutions; and develops and commercializes the energy resources of the future, including biofuels and other renewables. Chevron has approximately 59,000 employees and is based in San Ramon, Calif.

The Texas A&M Foundation matches donors and their interests with the university’s priorities. Our donors provide the resources that help faculty excel in their fields and students become confident professionals. The Foundation’s wise management of these generous gifts fuels Spirit and Mind. It helps Aggies leave their mark on the world in productive and inventive ways, and ensures a bright future for Texas A&M.
