Twelve Texas A&M University students are proud new wearers of blazers formally recognizing them as members of the Texas A&M Foundation’s Maroon Coats. The Maroon Coats are student ambassadors for the Foundation, a private nonprofit organization that solicits and manages major gifts to Texas A&M academics and student leadership programs.

The 12 new Maroon Coats join the 16 original members named in summer 2008, when the organization was formed.

Michael Schramm, a 2008 graduate and founder of the Maroon Coats, said the new members were chosen for their character and certain qualities that will enhance their effectiveness. “They need to be socially personable, competent in knowing how the university works, selfless and service-oriented – wanting to give back to something bigger than themselves, and eager to make an impact on many students and donors,” Schramm said.

The search process began Jan. 20 with the submission of applications, which was followed by socials and interviews. A Maroon Coats committee made final selections Feb. 18.

The new Maroon Coats, who received their blazers March 8, begin service immediately. They attend Foundation functions to meet, greet and assist Texas A&M donors; they conduct campus tours; and they visit and call Texas A&M donors to express appreciation for gifts to the university.
