ExxonMobil Foundation Gives Texas A&M $1.05 Million
ExxonMobil Foundation recently presented a check for more than $1.05 million to the Texas A&M Foundation.
The gift, which will benefit Texas A&M University, is ExxonMobil Foundation’s 3-to-1 match of donations made by the corporation’s employees, retirees, surviving spouses and directors under the ExxonMobil Foundation’s Educational Matching Gift Program for 2008. All donors, who gave a total of $916,589 in 2008, have chosen which Texas A&M programs will benefit from their gift.
“For decades, Texas A&M has enjoyed loyal support from Exxon Mobil Corporation and its Aggie employees and retirees,” Ed Davis, president of the Texas A&M Foundation, said when the check was presented May 7. “We have a tremendous appreciation for their gifts to the university and especially for the generous matching-gift program they maintain.”
Because of Aggies’ loyalty in giving back to their alma mater, Texas A&M has been among the top three universities to receive matching funds from this ExxonMobil Foundation program for the past 10 years.
Exxon Mobil Corp. employees, retirees, surviving spouses and directors made more than 8,500 individual contributions totaling more than $11 million to institutions of higher education in 2008, which were matched by the ExxonMobil Foundation with more than $25 million in unrestricted educational grants.
Since its inception in 1962, the program has provided $398 million to higher education institutions in the United States. Through the matching program, donors may pledge up to $7,500 per year to colleges or universities.
