Collin County Aggie Moms Commit To Another Texas A&M Scholarship

The Collin County Texas A&M University Mothers’ Club, which already awards an average of 10 A&M scholarships per year, has pledged funding for an endowed Aggie scholarship.

Earnings on the endowment — the scholarship fund created through the Texas A&M Foundation — will provide financial aid to Texas A&M University students for up to four years. Because the fund’s principal will remain intact, the scholarship will permanently provide financial aid to Collin County students.

“We have several former students on our board, and they heard that other Aggie moms’ groups had created endowed scholarships. These board members wanted us to do it, too,” said Lindsey Weiner, club president. “We set up our scholarship so it will help incoming freshmen from middle-income families. These students often can’t afford an Aggie education without considerable loans, but their parents’ incomes are too high to qualify for most need-based scholarships.”

Once fully funded, the scholarship will give preference to residents of Collin County and/or graduates of a Collin County high school whose family income is $50,000 to $90,000. Students will be required to maintain a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher to stay on the scholarship for four years.

The club will use money from fundraisers to complete the $25,000 endowment over the next five years. “We’re blessed that we are a large club, so we have a lot of resources to raise money for this. The best thing about Aggies is they have a can-do attitude,” said Weiner, whose Aggie sons Ben ’08 and William ’11 received scholarships.

“Our largest fundraiser is pecan sales in fall,” she said. “Our club sells poinsettias in December, and we hold a chili cook-off and silent auction in spring. We also have a raffle and sell Aggie items at the annual Parents’ Weekend boutique held on campus in mid-April.” 

The scholarship was established during Operation Spirit and Mind^SM a $300 million initiative raising funds for Texas A&M scholarships and graduate fellowships. The Texas A&M Foundation leads the multiyear initiative at the request of Texas A&M University.
