Textbook Firm Donates Manuals to Sea Aggies
October 06, 2008
More than 1,500 of the displaced students are continuing their studies at the main Texas A&M campus this fall.
Being made aware of the students’ need for new lab manuals, Hayden-McNeil President Jeff McCarthy responded by providing 280 introductory biology lab manuals and 250 introductory chemistry lab manuals with student lab notebooks free of charge. Andrea Kinney, the firm's managing editor for biology publications, and Lisa Wess, managing editor for chemistry publications, joined in supporting the donation.
“We are overwhelmed and greatly appreciative of Hayden-McNeil, which even paid shipping costs for the manuals,” noted Professor Ira Greenbaum who heads lower division instruction for the Texas A&M Department of Biology.
Dr. Eric Simanek, who directs the freshman program in the Department of Chemistry, agreed, noting, "The efforts by our partners at Hayden-McNeil, as well as the untold efforts of the faculty and staff within the university, are yet another example of what the Aggie Family is, as well as what it can accomplish.”
Greenbaum noted that the Department of Biology and Chemistry each added 14 lab sections to serve the Galveston students, pointing out that such accommodations have occurred throughout the campus to varying degrees.
