SPIRIT AND MIND

Faculty Support

The College of Liberal Arts' faculty stand at the center of the educational process. Their unique calling is to challenge, lead and teach one of the brightest student bodies in the nation. Faculty recognition and honors include three John S. Guggenheim Foundation Fellowships, two Texas A&M University Presidential Professors for Teaching Excellence, and Fellowships from the American Philosophical Society, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center.

State funds provide basic salaries for faculty, but only private support allows Texas A&M to recruit and recognize its most deserving faculty. A key goal of the university’s Vision 2020 plan is to increase the number of endowed faculty positions. Other goals include providing the resources and facilities that will allow faculty to lead the way in developing the highest quality learning environment in the classroom and laboratory.

Endowed faculty chairs and professorships fund special classroom projects, equipment, professional development and research initiatives. Most donors designate their Chairs and Professorships to the College and sometimes to departments.
