After Lifetime Gift

If you prefer to defer funding your gift until after your lifetime, there are several methods from which you can choose, each with different benefits.

Real Estate
You can donate your home, farm or ranch, vacation home, condominium, commercial real estate or investment property to the Texas A&M Foundation. In addition to personal satisfaction, you’ll also enjoy capital-gains tax benefits and a significant charitable tax deduction.

Bequests
Perhaps you’ve been considering a gift, but your cash flow prevents an outright gift. A bequest from a will or a living trust lets you pass along after your lifetime any amount you wish to the Texas A&M Foundation—for the benefit of Texas A&M University—free of estate tax. You can give a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, with or without restrictions. For the specific language to use in your will or living trust, please click here

Life Insurance
A gift of your life insurance could be a sensible and generous way to support A&M. If you make the Texas A&M Foundation the owner of your policy, you can receive, on the date of the gift, an income-tax deduction for the policy’s fair market value or cost basis (if lower). If you name the Foundation the beneficiary of the policy while retaining ownership, your estate will receive an estate tax deduction for the insurance proceeds.

Retirement Plan Assets
Did you know that most retirement-plan assets are taxed twice? Assets remaining in retirement plans funded with pretax dollars are considered “income in respect of a decedent.” Not only can the amount be diminished by estate taxes, but the recipient, too, must pay income taxes on it. Many assets can be passed on to heirs without incurring income tax, but most retirement assets are taxed when withdrawn by heirs. Retirement-plan assets passed to the Texas A&M Foundation are not.  If you own other assets that are not as heavily taxed, you may prefer to leave these to your family, and leave your retirement-plan assets to the Texas A&M Foundation to benefit A&M.
