Cote Named Biomedical Engineering Department Head
Dr. Gerard Cotè, holder of the Charles H. and Bettye Barclay Professorship in Engineering has been named head of the Department of Bioengineering in the Dwight Look College of Engineering.
Cotè is considered an expert in biomedical optical sensing. As director the Optical Biosensing Lab, Cotè develops biosensing and diagnostic systems using lasers, fiberoptics and electronics for new, noninvasive ways to test blood sugar levels in diabetics. Cotè also studies ways to diagnose cancer and detect other body chemicals, such as beta amyloid, for Alzheimer's disease.
