Education & Human Development

The College of Education and Human Development is among the leading developers of teachers in Texas. The college's teacher education programs are nationally accredited, and its graduate programs and science education program are nationally ranked.

Funding Priorities

The College of Education identifies and prioritizes the needs of our college, with a goal of providing the best possible opportunities to our students and faculty.

Our current priorities include:

  • Endowed scholarships, professorships and faculty chairs:
The college currently has more than 50 students on scholarship and four endowed faculty chairs.
  • Centers and Institutes:
This year, we want to increase funding for our two newest centers. The Center for Alcohol and Drug Education Studies trains personnel who conduct alcohol education programs. The Center for Collaborative Learning Communities helps colleges and local schools and communities work together on educational projects.
  • Learning to Teach in Inner City Schools:
This teacher training program addresses one of the most challenging issues facing education: attracting, training and retaining teachers for inner city schools. Texas A&M teacher education students can enroll in this program, which is conducted at the Gregory Lincoln Education Center in the Houston Independent School District.
  • Technology:
The Center for Distance Learning Research is a unique public/private partnership between Texas A&M and GTE that addresses distance learning and other educational technology issues. With federal and state legislation increasing technology funding, the center will work with more and more schools, libraries, community centers and governmental entities to address their technology and technology training needs.
